FUN TIMES DURING THE WEDDING BREAKFAST AT TALL TREES HOTEL YARM
ONLY THE BEST FOR THE TOAST!
I had a great time with Viv and Chris during and after their wedding at Stockton Baptist Tabernacle Church and at Tall Trees Hotel Yarm for their wedding reception .... and they have been kind enough to send me the lovely following testimonial !
".....We absolutely love our wedding album! It is such an amazing record of our special day. Dirk - you were a star, we have so many great wedding photographs, many we weren’t even aware of you taking! You were a complete professional, capturing so many special moments - and you were a pleasure to have around - our friends and family felt very comfortable too. You listened to what we wanted and also made some great suggestions. Flexible, enthusiastic AND creative. It was an amazing treat to be able to view our photos online during our honeymoon and we had so many photos to choose from, it took us ages! Dirk, you did such a good job, and we have so many professional but natural photographs that captured our special day....
THANK YOU!"

INDIVIDUAL WHITE CHOCOLATE WEDDING CAKES........ Mmmm

<

This is one of the more spectacular wedding cakes that I photographed recently at Nicola and David's wedding at Hardwick Hall.

Supplied by Celebration Cakes at Horden it was a real beauty, or rather they were real beauties!

Unfortunately, they all disappeared before I made a convincing argument as to why I deserved one more than anyone else ....

Shazad and Mashrufa Newcastle wedding - again!

I was a guest at the 2nd (!) celebration of Mashrufa and Shazad at the weekend ... all new clothes... all new guests (apart from family), and even though I wasn't the official photographer at this 2nd celebration, I took some nice photographs - everyone seemed a lot more relaxed too .... so here's a great photograph of Mashrufa before she headed off to Dubai on honeymoon with her new husband Shazad.

FANTASTIC NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE WEDDING OF SHAZAD AND MASHRUFA AT THE ASSEMBLY ROOMS

I was photographer at Mashrufa and Shazad's wedding at The Assembly Rooms in Newcastle on Sunday .. and what a great day it was too.
The Muslim wedding ceremony was the night before, and such is the way with these things, they were married seperately from each other by the Imam, but came together for the BIG celebration with family and friends at The Assembly Rooms in Newcastle.
It was a colourful noisy and sometimes chaotic wedding compared to a traditional western ceremony, but there were smiles all around and lots of nice photographs to be created.
It is different again to a Western wedding where there is normally one photographer. At this wedding there were THREE photographers commissioned by the two families and TWO videographers ........ so it got a bit crowded at times.
I hope you like some of the first images I have edited!

Wedding Cakes and suppliers ..... HMS TRINCOMALEE

I'm forever being asked where to source different wedding cakes / wedding favours - even wedding dresses when I'm showing off our portfolio of wedding photographs to prospective clients.
I try to remember and make note of different suppliers at different weddings but it's not always possible as every day is hectic (as well as fun...).
The good thing is that I keep in contact with many of my brides from over the years (and I'm photographing some of their children now...), so I can always e-mail or ring a bride to find out where the placecards were from, or who supplied the bouquet or perhaps the supplier of the entertainment for the evening reception.
So, with that, here's a beautiful cake that was at Susan and Derek's Valentine's Day wedding at HMS Trincomalee at the Historic Quay in Hartlepool and I can let you know that the supplier was Ice 'n Easy in Durham City.

CHILDREN AT WEDDINGS .....

I love having children at weddings, they bring a life and vitality to the proceedings .. if they're well behaved of course!
Luckily, I haven't come across one badly behaved child in the past 6 years and usually they are lucky enough to have good parents who offer them a lot of love and support.
I have hundreds of lovely images from weddings of children enjoying their day, and there's quite a few on this blog already, but editing a wedding recently I came across this one from last summer that I had forgotten about .. it's a great image from Rick and Deborah's wedding at Crathorne Hall in North Yorkshire

New wedding photobooks .....

I've had a few wedding photobook albums delivered this week from orders made by brides and some by their parents.
Photobooks are a great way to display a wedding, much lighter and easier to carry around than a traditional matted album, and available in many options from small to large and square to panoramic, and we source many from the USA, Germany and New Zealand to be able to offer the largest range to our wedding 'families'.
With photobooks you can put them on your bookshelf and display them, rather than putting them in a cupboard or in the loft with the wedding dress, and some of our gorgeous German made square albums are a delight - one of our packages offers up to four of these in addition to the bride and grooms album so that they can offer them to bridesmaids or the best man or groomsman.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY EDITING AND IMAGE ENHANCEMENT

There's a tremendous amount of work to do once a wedding has been photographed.

I complete a 1st edit as soon as I return back to base, and that's whether I get back at midnight or 2 o' clock in the morning.

I much prefer to do this 1st edit of images from two cameras while the day is fresh in my mind.

First edit is to take out all the images that didn't quite work, all the images where the bride and groom and their guests have their eyes shut or where they are pulling a funny face (unintentionally of course.....)
At this stage I 'see' some photographs in black and white and I make a monochrome version of the image to remind me later, and it's amazing how many brides and grooms love my selections and order them later as framed portraits or canvases, I still don't know how I decide that a particular image will work so well as a monochrome photograph, I guess it's just years of experience!
Some weddings we decide beforehand to complete ALL in black and white, and luckily with digital nowadays that's an easy option, although getting the rich deep blacks and clean whites that look so good takes a little time with every image in post production... and that all adds up.
First edit will take me between 2-3 hours, and at that stage I also colour correct and enhance the images when and where they are needed, to give them a little bit of WOW factor and try give my bride and groom an impression of how a captured image can look in different styles or ways of presentation... so some images have three of four variations, perhaps in black and white, perhaps with a stronger more graphical colour correction, or maybe a version with just a slight amount of image enhancement.
