Durham Castle is a fabulous wedding venue for couples who want an amazing venue for their wonderful day of wedding celebrations.
Julie always wanted to be a Princess in a Castle on her wedding day and together Gary and Julie made her dream come true
As with many of my brides and grooms, Julie and Gary and their family were special to me, that's why I photograph a limited number of weddings each year, so that I can concentrate and deliver a great customer experience and a great customer service.
We met up over a year ago - they had seen me 'perform' over 2 years ago at a friend's wedding at Beamish Park Hotel, and after that they were convinced that I should be an important part of their day.
I helped where I could, offering recommendations from my contacts where possible and then we caught up for a pre-wedding portrait session at the quayside at Newcastle, a favourite place of theirs.
I also travelled to Chester le Street a few days before the wedding to take part in their dress rehearsal, to meet with the vicar and parents, so we were all 'onside' and really relaxed about their wedding.
The fabulous ancient church of St Mary and St Cuthbert is central to many people in the town as it has been for centuries, and it looked splendid in the summer sunshine when I arrived to check it out before dashing up the road to meet with Julie and her bridesmaids and her parents as the day got underway.
An air of excitement was all around and Julie already looked fabulous as she had her make-up finished .. the dress was yet to be revealed!
The bridesmaids were very happy too - along with Julie's Mum too of course, her father was totally relaxed and seemingly in charge of the flowers which had been delivered recently.
There was a panicked call from Gary for Julie to deal with, he was concerned that the Bentley might not be able to park near his father's house. We dismissed as 'Pre-Match nerves' between us!
Julie's wonderful Justin Alexander dress was revealed .. WOW, what a dress by one of my favourite designers, so elegant and chic!
A few quick family shots with the bridesmaids as well and I was off to the church to say hello to the vicar and check how Gary was doing - he cried during the dress rehearsal, so I had brought extra tissues, just in case!
Surprise, surprise, he was cool as a cucumber and really looking forward to seeing Julie - I told him he had a treat is store.
before long, Julie was here and marching down the aisle with her father.
I managed to climb the really tight stone spiral staircase to the bell-tower to catch a lovely image of them being married from about 100 feet above.
The only blot on Gary today was that he got cramp while he was kneeling down, it brought a few smiles from the guests I can tell you!
Suddenly, we were outside with lots of happiness and smiling and congratulations before we headed off down the A167 to Durham and a few quick photographs (we thought) on Prebends Bridge.
These were fine and it was nice for the three of us to be strolling about the river on such a lovely day. Julie and Gary became tourist fodder too, with congratulations ringing out from passers-by, and then they had their photographs taken with some tourists from Saudi Arabia .. great fun, and totally bizarre as they said!
Durham castle is a wonderful wedding venue - available outside of term time to those who want to book, and with such a beautiful summer's day, it was drinks on the main lawn for an hour or more to really chill out and get into the celebrations.
I popped inside to make sure we had some images of the room set up, some with the happy couple too - Gary thought it fun to take a photograph of me as I hung over the balcony! Outside the wonderful Kentucky Cow Tippers were playing and Gary and Julie were singing along too!
Fifteen minutes before we were called in for the wedding breakfast (thanks folks, it was wonderful food!) I had time to complete some relaxed family groups for the parents and one grand parent, then it was in for the speeches.
Afterwards, I had 10 minutes with Gary and Julie for some nice bridal portraits, before 'the boys' became a little excitable as I made sure we had some photographs of them before they had a few too many beers - it was a laugh!
Soon, evening guests were arriving, the cake was to be cut and the first dance kicked off the band for the evening and it was time for me to leave before it became too messy!
It was a wonderful day of celebration for the happy couple - really relaxed and chilled out, and they and their family and friends were kindness itself, and I blushed as they thanked me for a great wedding experience.
It was my pleasure folks!
