TIME FOR A LITTLE ROMANCE AT WYNYARD HALL AS THEY SHELTER FROM THE RAIN!
Wynyard Hall has grown over the past two years into one of the premier wedding venues in the north of England with all virtually all Saturday's and Sunday's now booked for four years ahead!
It's one of my favourite wedding venues, steeped in history with magnificent architecture and wonderful grounds, so I was delighted when Caroline and Antony asked me to be their official wedding photographer.
They knew exactly what they wanted, lots of relaxed photographs showing the ambiance and atmosphere and fun of their wedding celebrations, nothing starchy, nothing that took them away from their guests and didn't involve standing around all day getting photographs taken - that sounded like me!
They had seen the photographs I produced at other weddings posted on my BLOG and website and were convinced after I met with them at their home, a converted church west of Durham.
So, the big day arrived and I was at Caroline's home bright and early as she gathered with her famly and bridemaids - and out came the champagne!
Everyone was so friendly and accommodating so it was a breeze to capture some nice natural wedding preparation images - and I even had time to dash out of the door and up the hill where other guests - including the groom Antony were being picked up in a vintage black double decker bus... even Caroline stuck her head out of the front gate to catch a glimpse.
My friend and felow professional photographer Dawn was at Wynyard Hall to capture the arrival of the guests on the bus, whileI followed Caroline's cars from home through to the venue.
Once there, there was time for a last bit of lipstick and adjustments to her beautiful Sophia Tolli wedding dress before she went down ther aisle to meet with Antony - she looked a real picture and knocked the socks off Antony when he turned around to greet her.
The rain poured down all day unfortunately, but Wynyard Hall is such a great venue that there are always options, and while it would have been nice to have been on the terrace in the sunshine on a June day, that's the British summer for you!
There was lots of time with canapes and champagne to get lots of lovely relaxed images of Caroline and Antony with their friends and relatives, and the wedding breakfast and speeches ended with a bang.
Caroline's German mum was surprised, along with guests from around the world when an Austro-Germanic accordian player burst forth and had the crowd singing along and waving (mainly German flags).
I think a few of the chaps felt a bit awkward with the World Cup so close, but everyone entered into the spirit of the stunt that Caroline had dreamt up!
Another 100 Evening guests were almost assembling as the events came to a close and then it was more meeting and greeting, the cake cutting and the first dance - what a wedding, and with the music and laughter still ringing in my ears and after 12 hours on my feet, I headed off home - and it was STILL raining!
Enjoy this SNEAK PEEK of the fun - 20+ images from the 400+ images that tell the story of their fabulous wedding celebrations!

Rockliffe Hall is a brilliant five star wedding venue for the north of England and I was lucky enough to be among the first wedding photographers booked for this exclusive use hotel.
Elizabeth and Wayne are a great couple and had their grand wedding planned for 2013, but decided in the end to have a small intimate wedding with their closest family and friends at Rockliffe Hall after a civil ceremony at County Hall Northallerton the year before!
I met with Elizabeth for the first time only 6 weeks before her wedding, which is unusual, but we got on famously in the hour while we talked about her plans for her wedding celebrations. I didn't need to be there all day as is normal, and the wedding party was originally going to be for only nine friends and relatives, but this ended up as just 21 guests at Rockliffe Hall.
Many more brides are looking for small intimate weddings and am happy to tailor my coverage for a smaller wedding.
I met with Elizabeth and her son and Wayne at their beautiful home as they prepared for their guests arriving and there was a lot of fun and champagne on the terrace before they piled into two stretch limousines to take them for their civil ceremony at Northallerton.
Elizabeth didn't expect to be crying at any point, but she was definitely bubbling as she stood at the front of the ceremony room with the registrar and while a very funny Pam Ayers poem was read out.
So with tears and laughter we went outside to grab a few shots with confetti for her lady friends and then headed over to Rockliffe Hall where they had booked a private dining room to celebrate their marriage.
Although Rockliffe Hall is very new and shiny, it's been extended from a much older building and the architects and developers have done a brilliant job making it all work so well, and once the grounds approaching the hotel develop and grow, it will be an even more magnificent wedding venue.
I had time on the terrace while the guests had some more champagne to sort a few quick family and friend groups then borrowed the bride and groom for a few intimate photographs, before I said my thanks and farewell to the happy couple and their guests as they sat down to dinner.
It was a lovely small intimate wedding, full of fun and laughter and tears and joy. It was a pleasure to be part of Elizabeth and Wayne's wedding celebrations at Rockliffe Hall!
I hope you enjoy a sneak peek of their 150+ final edited images telling the story of their day .....

Ellingham Hall Wedding Photography Review: Amy and Fraser

NEW!! SEE ROWENA AND WILLIAM'S ELLINGHAM HALL WEDDING HERE

I've photographed a number of lovely weddings at Ellingham Hall in Northumberland. This exclusive use wedding venue in the north east of England is VERY popular with families who wish to spend a long weekend over their wedding, with accomodation in lodges and the beautiful old hall.
Arriving on a Friday and having time to settle in, followed by a wedding on the Saturday and then a long lazy Sunday is a lot of people's idea of heaven.
The last wedding I photographed was back in December, when Amy and Fraser flew in from Calgary, Canada. Amy booked me after reading about the wedding of Liz and Steve whose wedding I covered in summer at Ellingham Hall - without even meeting me, that's confidence!
We all had a great day for a winter wedding and recently I received a lovely testimonial and review both from Amy and from her mum Christine.
Christine's first:
"When your daughter and her fiancee live thousands of miles away in Calgary, Canada and they are arranging their wedding day in England, there is plenty of scope for things to go wrong!
However, they made an excellent choice choosing Dirk for their special day having seen examples of his wedding photography on the internet.
While they were over in the UK for a visit in September, Dirk came to meet the happy couple and it was immediately obvious that he would be a pleasure to work with. He showed a genuine interest in who they were and so they relaxed in his company.
They ended his visit with a walk in the sunshine to take some pictures and he took fabulous photographs, one of which he presented framed to them on their wedding day.
He arrived early at Ellingham Hall in Northumberland, giving himself plenty of time to take pictures of the hall and decorations before the crowds descended. His presence throughout the day and evening was unintrusive when taking photographs, but several guests commented that he was easy to talk to and in fact some people thought he was a guest at the wedding!
Wedding days are always a little stressful and when the bride and groom are still suffering from jetlag, there could have been some tension. But, Dirk put everyone at ease and captured some beautiful images which will evoke wonderful memories of a very special day'.

Now Amy's kind words:
" .... Just wanted to say a big thank you for being our wedding photographer Dirk!
You were excellent and did exactly what we asked for. You made us feel comfortable on the day, let us be ourselves and produced some beautiful pictures.
It was so nice to know that we had an experience photographer onsite, it was one less thing to worry about and let us get on with the serious business of enjoying our big day!! Thank you again.
Amy and Fraser x
So .. there we have it, and that to both Amy and Christine for their kind words, so if you have a wedding at Ellingham Hall coming up, or even at Woodhill Hall in Northumberland or Guyzance Hall, then I would be delighted to be a small but important part of your day! Ring me at anytime on my mobile phone 0778 7150966, and tell me all about your plans!
If you are having a wedding elsewhere in the UK or abroad, I'm also happy to be part of your day too .... just invite me!
