Ellingham Hall in Northumberland is one of the finest exclusive use wedding venues in the north of England.

I have photographed many weddings there over the years, and at everyone, people were thrilled by the venue, the location and the gardens and the exquisite service from the experienced staff.

All have rented the lodges and cottages in the extensive grounds as well as the main house, from Friday until Monday.

Imagine taking over a beautiful stately home on your wedding day, a beautiful hidden place in the unspoilt beauty of Northumberland?
Ellingham Hall has been restored to its former grandeur and the privately owned estate is full of charm and is the ultimate exclusive use venue in the county with brides and grooms travelling from across the UK and the world for a VERY special wedding weekend.
The hall is fully licenced for civil ceremonies and partnerships and the combination of the three large reception rooms, 17 bedrooms and 12 estate cottages means that you can enjoy a truly private wedding where everything takes place within one location.
Ellingham Hall and grounds are the perfect backdrop for the big day from getting ready and your ceremony, to the reception, entertainment and all of the other fun and games you have planned. And it goes without saying that Ellingham Hall makes a wonderful and romantic setting for your photographs to be taken.
Wedding ceremonies take place in the intimate wood panelled dining room. With it’s ornate ceiling, feature fireplace and natural light, this is the perfect place to say ‘I do’.
With the rest of the hall at your disposal, there is plenty of space to host the rest of the day. Our beautifully converted chapel provides the focal point for all dining and entertainment. This spacious room can seat 150 people for a meal and can host up to 250 people to dance the night away at your evening reception. The dining room, lounge and entrance hall as well as outdoor seating areas provide lots of space for your guests to mingle and relax.

TIME FOR THE FIRST DANCE .....

Rockliffe Hall is becoming one of my favourite five-star wedding venues in the north of England after photographing my fifth wedding there.
Claire and Andy had a fantastic day of celebration with their closest family and friends with the early part of their wedding bathed in sunshine, only to be greeted with persistant drizzly rain during their time at Rockliffe Hall.
No worries, they were looking forward to a great day of happiness and fun, shared among the people they love, so the weather certainly didn't put a dampner on things.
Claire and Andy and to VERY BUSY corporate lawyers in London, and they would admit them selves to owing a huge debt to their family in particular for helping to arrange and organise much of their wedding dat at St peter's Church at Croft in Tees and at Rockliffe Hall.
I first met with Claire's parents at their home west of Durham where we chatted and shared a pot of tea. They had viewed many of my weddings on this blog and also on my website, so knew that I would fit into their celebrations professionally while capturing all the happiness of their daughter's day with Andy unobtrusively and with courtesy and a BIG smile.
They were right too ... :)
The happy couple-to-be  managed to fit me into their hectic schedule during their final visit to the church and Rockliffe Hall before their  wedding, so it was great to share a pot of tea and some time together,  even if we didn't manage a pre-wed shoot .. the time together is the important bit, it gives couples confidence and trust in my being a small but important part of their wedding day.
So, I met with Andy's parents and the best man, the vicar and the bridesmaids as well as Claire's parents again at the dress rehearsal the night before the wedding. It's always nice to make that point of contact if at all possible, and with a personal service such as the one I offer to brides and grooms and their families, all part of the 'bonding' and trust I try to instill in my clients.
The following morning I was at the family home before Claire got back from the hairdressers, welcomed with a nice mug of tea while I set about photographing Claire's beautiful Sassi Holford wedding gown, and her gorgeous Christian Louboutin wedding shoes.
Before long she joined us and suddenly the house was alive with chitter-chatter and the bridesmaids and the groomsmen dashing here and there to finish off before heading 45 minutes down the road to Croft on Tees.
At one point Claire was convinced that the dress had been altered a little on length .. just pre-match nerves we thought!
So, a quick couple of family photographs and an image with 'the girls' and I headed off to the church to meet with Andy and 'the boys'.
All was quiet, lots and lots of guests milling around the church and Andy walked across the road after a few 'refreshments' to greet me with a handshake! The day was ON!
He looked cool, calm and collected - even after Claire swept down the aisle with her father to greet him with her lovely wide smile!
Outside, the sun was still shining, so there was lots of kissing and cuddling, handshakes and bear-hugs before we threw the confetti and made the short journey up the lane to the magnificent Rockliffe Hall Hotel, a venue I now know well.
Just as we arrived, the drizzle started, and unfortunately didn't really let up for the rest of the day, even though it was August! Neither Claire or Andy were bothered and set about meeting and greeting their guests in the Rockliffe Suite inside, though we did pop outside on the balcony area for a few family group photographs later in the day despite it still raining.
The speeches were great fun, espcially the best man speech when he donned a wig and encouraged the baying crowd to declare that Andy was 'GUILTY' of many offences, among them being 'weak' and of 'not being in control' ... the room engulfed in laughter!
I managed to borrow the happy couple for a few quick portraits in the older part of Rockliffe Hall, managed to gather the chaps with kilts (and there were many ... ) in an ante room, because not only was in raining now, it was dark too!
Cutting the beautiful wedding cake preceded the first dance which went down very well and when I left after thanking Claire and Andy for their friendship and their parents for their hospitality, the celidh was in full swing!
A great relaxed day for the bride and groom, and I hope my small selection of documentary / reportage images from their day gives you a flavour of their day.
