AS THE FIREWORKS LIGHT UP THE SKY .. THE END OF A GREAT WEDDING DAY FOR THE HAPPY COUPLE!
Danielle and John live in Melbourne Australia, and organised their wedding at Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland almost entirely though the internet and with some help from family and friends back in the UK.
Luckily, they chose me as their wedding photographer and we had a few video chats using Skype so they could tell me all about their plans and we could bond a little bit. Building a relationship with  my brides and grooms and often their families is an important part of the way I work.
Soon it was the week before the wedding and I met with them for a pre-wedding portrait shoot in Durham just 4 days before their wedding .. and luckily, we got on great and everything felt just right for their wedding celebrations.
Family and friends from all over the world and the UK headed to the small Northumberland village of Bamburgh where the magnificent castle dominates the landscape all around. Danielle and John and their families were staying at Budle hall, just a mile awy from the village and a great place for everyone to hang out for a long weekend and a place where friends could gather before and after the wedding date.
Danielle seemed really chilled out and we had a few laughs as I  photograhed lots of details at Budle and as she got ready into her beautiful Maggie Sottero wedding gown.
I needed to meet with John and his pals and close family at a hotel in the village as their plan was to walk to Bamburgh Castle. My only reservations about the weather when we chatted months previous was that quite often the rain  comes in sideways on the coast in Northumberland, but it had turned into a stunning summer's day, blue skies, not a breath of wind and really warm, hot in fact!
It was good to see John again and he was too chilled for words, and soon we were off on the 15 minute walk up to the castle to get married!
We were a good 35 minutes before the wedding time, but as we neared the top of the climb up the hill to the castle, the bridemaids were arriving, and some of the 150 guests were already assembling outside the Great Hall - a quite magnificent room in an unbelievable fairytale castle!
Danielle arrived bang on time and was smiling away along with her father .. all the way to the front of the hall where she met her husband to be. There were a few tears as friends made lovely readings, before the kidd sealed their marriage to a round of applause!
A quick group photograph or three on the lawn in the quadrangle before the geusts headed to an area festooned with canons facing out to the North Sea on an almost tropical day in the north east of England for a drinks reception. I was almost expecting to see palm trees bending gently in the breeze, as it looked and felt like the Italian coast rather than  Northumberland!
Weddings at Bamburgh Castle take place at 5pm, so we didn't have long before we had to head off to the wedding breakfast at Budle Hall. I jumped in the front of the wedding car to get dropped off at the car park at the bottom of the hill where my car was so I could follow them to the sand dunes for a quick photograph with the castle in the distance .. it was funny as we drove past friends waiting for their lift in a double decker bus, waving like royalty at the newly weds who were hanging out of the car to take the applause!
At Budle House, the marquee was dressed and ready to go ... the newly weds were clapped into the room where we laughed and had a few tears at the speeches, before John wielded his trusty sword to slice the croque en bouche a pyramid of profiteroles before the first dance and evening entertainment began.
Fireworks in the grounds of Budle Hall were a bonus for family and friends before local noise abetement bylaws meant that fun was had with a silent disco as the fun headed past midnight.
It was a long drive home, but I reflected on what a cracking  weding day it had been at Bamburgh Castle for Danielle and john, all the way from Melbourne Australia!
Enjoy this sneak peek of their exciting day here.
