The Star Inn at Harome near Helmsley is renowned across the UK for excellent food created by Andrew Pern and his team.
Their excellent seafood is provided by Hodgson's Fish based in Hartlepool, a family company more than 100 years old, and when Jill, the daughter of Alan (who had been in charge of the business most recently) was married, she chose The Star Inn as her wedding venue, and Papakåta provided the Tee-Pees in the grounds for her wedding breakfast and evening celebrations.
Jill spotted my wedding photography on the internet and made an appointment for me to come and see her and Andrew to chat about her wedding day.
We seemed to get on well, she enjoyed the wedding books and the complete sets of wedding photography that I showed them and not long afterwards they signed up and I welcomed them aboard!
Almost a year later we met up again at the pre-wedding portrait shoot on a freezing day with their delightful young son and also Jill's mum too, so it was nice to share a warming mug of tea and chat about the wedding celebrations to come!
The weather was so poor at the beginning of the wedding week, I made the decision to travel to Helmsley in North Yorkshire the day before the wedding on Easter Sunday JUST in case a shed-load of snow dropped over the North Yorkshire moors.
It wouldn't have been a good excuse if I had to ring Andrew and Jill on the day and explain that I couldn't get to their wedding!
So it was that I arrived by 5pm on Easter Saturday and checked into a delightful B&B in Harome itself, just a few minutes walk from The Star Inn and ten minutes after my arrival, Jill welcomed me with a big smile and showed me around the venue, showed me where the ceremony would be held and the Tee-Pees which were all ready and decorated for the wedding the next day.
I was also kindly invited to their gathering of family and friends that evening and share great food and a beer or three - it was a nice way to meet with guests who were all going to be an important part of the wedding the next day!
So, next day, after a hearty breakfast at Bramble Cottage, I wandered over to meet with Jill a good two-and-a-half-hours before the wedding and popped across to another lodge to greet Andrew who was as cool as a cucumber, even though his young son Dylan was under his feet!
Jill was also chilled out, in fact she was wondering what else there was to do after her hairdresser left, she had time on her hands, so the champagne came out to share with her good friend!
I knew that Jill and Andrew were also to have a Baby Naming ceremony for their young son immediately after the wedding ceremony - a first for me, and a big surprise for their guests as well.
There were details to photograph in the Tee-Pees as guests started to arrive, and when that was completed the bridesmaids were itching to get into their dresses and Andrew had decided it was time to be in his suit and ready for the forthcoming celebrations!
All of a sudden, time was running fast (the clocks had also gone forward that day too...) Jill wanted to get her dress on, so I went down stairs to meet with the registrars before heading back to her room once she was into her lovely wedding dress.
Andrew was meeting and greeting his guests and his best man too - and headed off walking to The Pheasant for a pair of tights .... Hmm, but they were for a guest!
By now guests were being ushered into the ceremony room at Cross House Lodge and Jill was making last minute adjustments before coming (carefully) with Anna, the wedding co-ordinator down the stone steps to meet with the registrars!
The service was over quite quickly, and we soon forgot that no-one had left a chair for the bride or the groom - but space was a little tight!
The the guests were then told that there would be a Baby Naming ceremony for Andrew and Jill's young son Dylan, so the celebration was a double one!
Outside, the weather was cold, but sunny, as it had been for much of March, so there was time for guests to enjoy the Oyster Bar, some superb canapes and champagne to celebrate the ceremonies!
I managed to gather together parents and grandparents for some informal groupings and took out 10 minutes for some bride and groom shots too, but didn't want to make Jill feel uncomfortable, she only booked me because she dislikes her photograph being taken!
So, onto the magnificent wedding breakfast (for me: Pressed Ham Knuckle Terrine with spiced pineapple pickle, grain mustard vinaigrette, celery cress with a little fried Quail egg .. for the main course I had Grilled 'Hodgson's of Hartlepool' Halibut with North Sea shellfish risotto, followed by a magnificent Taste of Star Inn desserts ... THANKS FOLKS!).
Speeches and champagne followed with a little time afterwards to catch up on some additional family and friends photographs before evening guests arrived.
There was to be no first dance, just a gathering of friends, more Oysters, a Hog Roast and a singer providing the atmosphere.
This was the perfect wedding for Jill and Andrew, pretty low-key, their closest family and friends, no fuss and naturally taken wedding photographs to reflect the reality and happiness of the day.
It was my pleasure to have been part of their wedding celebrations at the Star Inn and Cross House Lodge in Harome near Helmsley

I only photograph a limited amount of weddings each year, so it's never a production line.
Many of my weddings are in North Yorkshire and the North east, but every year I head off to all parts of the UK to photograph a lovely relaxed wedding.
