Andy and Vikki chose their wedding venue and their photographer early on, and luckily they chose me to be a small but important part of their day - and what a great day they enjoyed!
They had seen a lot of my work and read my reviews before we had a chat, so I was delighted when they decided to sign up as it would be my first chance to photograph a wedding at Newton Hall.
Many months later we met again for tea and cake on the historic Headland of Hartlepool, close to their home and especially close to their wedding venue at St Mary's Church, almost 120 years old and an iconic church on the landscape. I captured some lovely images of them around the sea walls and in the garden of the church and we hoped for blue skies and sunshine a few weeks later for their marriage there before we headed 2 hours up the road to the delightful Newton Hall.
Andy and Vikki had known each other vaguely since they were children, but it was only when Andy came back to Hartlepool from working in London that they hoooked up big style - and what a lovely couple they make too!
I arrived at Vikki's home before 9am - it was going to be a very long day!
She and her bridesmaids were all totally relaxed and happy, and the bacon buns were being delivered as I arrived, tea followed and a relaxing bridal preparation with her closest friends and before long Mum and Dad turned up too to support her.
Vikki's beautiful Justin Alexander wedding gown looked stunning just hanging there before she put it on .. .and an hour or so later it looked even more stunning when 'the girls' helped Vikki on with her gown.
The bridesmaids looked splendid too in their lovely dresses.
Time for a few quick portraits with the girls and Vikkis parents before I headed off to the church.
Andy was cool as a cucumber (well, err, nearly .. ) and was in the Cosmopolitan pub next door, where he and his father proceeded to take off their trousers in te bar and swap - they had realised that they had the wrong trousers on !
Comedy moment !
As Andy and the later guests wandered into the church our camper van from LoveDub arrived with the bridesmaids and the bride's Mum before heading back off for Vikki and her father.
Even though we were running late, there was no problem with everyone in a happy mood and relaxed - especially with the glorious blue skies and sunshine and 24 degrees C outside!
Vikki arrived with a flourish, and it was smiles all round as the girls came into church with Andy getting his first glimpse of his bride to be - the smile on Vikki's face was wide !
Soon we were out in the sunshine in the gardens of the beautiful Parish Church of St Mary for kisses and cuddles and a few quick family photographs before the guests headed north to Newton Hall and I jumped into their camper van with the happy couple for a few photographs around the historic Headland of Hartlepool before we swapped cars outside the church and headed off on our long drive to Newton Hall to join the guests.
The blue skies and sunshine gradually turned to rain and grey skies as we headed north through the Tyne Tunnel, but there were also outbreaks of sunshine in between torrential showers, which proved to be how the rest of the day would be.
Luckily, even after arriving we had a good hour for everyone to settle in and enjoy their canapes and champagne, while I captured some nice relaxed images of people enjoying their day of wedding celebration, with a ten minute break for some family shots and a quick group photograph before we headed for some lovely, but quick speeches before we had out wedding breakfast, a glorious meal (thank you folks for your hospitality!!).
With some of the time we had, there was a few bridal and groom portraits to take and catch up with a few informal friend photographs too, before we headed to cutting the cake and the first dance with the band and a photobooth provided by Snaperazzi.
We all had a great day of celebration, and the happiness and laughter could still be heard above the music as I headed to my B&B at Alnwick after a wonderful day for Vikki and Andy with their closest friends and relatives!
