I had met with the happy couple at Jonathan's parent's home more than 15 months previously and got on like a house on fire, they are such a lovely couple. In between we kept in contact by Facebook and email so it was nice to finally catch up for a pre-wedding meeting to chat about their upcoming nuptials, and we also took a stroll on the beach and took some pre-wedding portraits.
Their plan was to get married in Greatham Village St John the Baptist Church, so it was nice to catch up with their family and bridesmaids at their dress rehearsal which I always try to attend, it gives the clergy some confidence and trust in me, and it also means that come the wedding day, myself and the main members of the wedding party are not strangers and they can all relax and enjoy their day.
I arrived at Claire's mum's house good and early on a day that was gray and overcast, with torrential rain promised by the weather forecast … not good, but there was sunshine inside where Claire was chilled out and ready to enjoy her day of wedding celebrations. The flowers had arrived from Wild and Wonderful and were so lovely, and guests arrived throughout the day to offer their best wishes to the family and Claire.
When I left, the rain was really coming down, even more so as I arrived at the church and parked up. Jonathan was nervous, but he still had his wide smile to greet relatives and guests as the church filled quickly, even the vicar ad his brolly out! It was a quick dash into church for the bridesmaids - almost a run, while poor Claire had to carry her own dress as she dashed into the church with her father ….! Once inside, there were smiles a mile wide from Claire and Jonathan as they met each other and soon it was time for the dash to the cars in the pouring rain - though we still had time for a quick confetti shot!
Redworth Hall had also suffered the deluge, so I knew that using the beautiful grounds would be a no-no today, no bride likes to get their dress muddy or sink into the grass in their heels, so there's always Plan B when it comes to wedding photography - and it never rains all day .. or does it ?
Some guests on the coach went to the wrong location, which provide amusement to those who arrives a few minutes after me, so we had time to relax and I sorted out the photographs of the venue that we needed and once the candles were lit, the Great Hall looked as lovely as ever! There was also some time to capture some nice images of Jonathan and Claire together inside Redworth Hall.
The wedding breakfast was excellent (thanks folks!) as ever, a highlight of every wedding at Redworth Hall weddings. The speeches were very entertaining, even the father for the groom had a speech and the last speech by one of the groomsmen was very emotional and brought the house down as well as bringing tears to many a face - including me.
We had a little time before the evening events, including a practise for their first dance which they had done an hours practise with a dance teacher in the weeks before, and I worked with parents to capture some images of their friends and relatives too. The first dance went down a storm and there were smiles all round.
I caught up with both sets of parents to thank them for their hospitality and friendship during the day, then a quick cuddle and hug for the bride and groom and I headed off home, happy that such a lovely couple had enjoyed such a wonderful day of wedding celebration at Redworth Hall.
I only photograph a limited amount of weddings each year so that it never becomes a production line - I really am there for you and your family from the day you make your enquiry to the date I hand over your images and album.
