North East Wedding Photographers photographing weddings in Newcastle, Durham, Hartlepool, Sunderland and Darlington are many and it's very hard for a prospective bride and groom to be to choose.

DIRK VAN DER WERFF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY'S LATEST WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHS AND GALLERIES AND PAGES - UPDATED!
Pinterest has proven very popular during 2013, and I've added three new sections to my Pinterest site
Firstly I've compiled a selection of wedding photographs that I completed recently at Wynyard Golf Club wedding photography from Alison, Victoria and Ruth's weddings at the venue in north east England.
I've also added a page for Seaham Hall wedding photography which has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment under new owners - weddings at Seaham Hall will cost between £15,000 - £30,000 for exclusive use. The page features photographs from Lucy, Lyndsey and Lynne's weddings at this popular wedding venue.
I've also added a page for Headlam Hall wedding photography, this is such a popular wedding venue and my recent clients include Charlotte, Rachel, Rohanne and Amanda, check them out HERE.

Matfen Hall Wedding Photographer Review

MATFEN HALL WEDDING REVIEW:
ANNA AND WARREN IN THE GREAT HALL AT MATFEN HALL IN NORTHUMBERLAND DURING THEIR DECEMBER WEDDING

I had a great time photographing Anna and Warren's special winter wedding in Northumberland and Matfen Hall in December .... HERE.
Anna had kindly penned a review of my performance as their wedding photographer!

".....When Warren asked me to marry him, I knew the one thing he’d want to look after in terms of wedding planning was the photography. However, whist doing my own research online, I’d already come across someone I was very keen on myself. I needn’t have worried though, Warren had identified the same person; we both were very sure that we wanted Dirk to photograph our big day!

One of the first things that attracted us to him was how natural his wedding photos looked. He seemed to catch all those important moments – and detail - without anything looking formal or staged. With both of us having lived in many different places, we were aware that a lot of our guests would be travelling a great distance and the last thing we wanted was to be taken away from our reception for lots of formal pics. I’d had my heart set on a late winter wedding which I knew would make it a bit of a challenge from a lighting point of view but from the moment we met Dirk for an informal chat at Matfen Hall (our reception venue), it was very clear that we were all very much on the same wavelength. We were just thrilled that he was available on our date.

Before the wedding, Dirk travelled up to my parents’ house in Northumberland, to take some pre-wedding photographs. After a nice chat and spot of lunch with my mum, we went up to take a look at the church we’d be getting married in in Felton. We both felt immediately at ease with him and just enjoyed messing around and being ourselves. Needless to say we were thrilled with the results.

Leading up to the day itself, the weather was pretty snowy but Dirk made it up no problem. Warren had been quite insistent that he wanted some photos of me getting ready and at the house Dirk literally blended in with the rest of the family. I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that he almost doubled up as a bridesmaid at times – giving us tips and even offering to carry some of the girls’ bits and pieces in his pockets!

Our day was as magical and Christmassy as we hoped and Dirk really managed to capture every special moment – from the mince pies in the church, to the guests crying with laughter at the speeches. We had some beautiful family shots taken by the open fire and Dirk ensured we were never away from our guests for more than a few seconds. To us Dirk wasn’t just a photographer, he was one of our wedding guests and I can honestly say I felt quite sad when it came to saying goodbye.

We arrived back from our honeymoon to our gorgeous presentation box of 500 photos. Not only do we have perfect memories from the day, we also have the most perfect photographs to go with them!...."

HERE COME THE GIRLS!

Sarah and Dan's lovely small intimate wedding at Crathorne Hall was one of my first weddings of the year, and what a great day it proved to be!

We all had such a good time, and Dan and Sarah's closest friends played their part too in a cracking day of wedding celebrations ... anyways, Sarah has penned this (red-faced) review of my performance as their professional wedding photographer on their day at Crathorne Hall near Yarm in North Yorkshire.

"...We had already decided we wanted Dirk as our photographer for our wedding after seeing his photographs on his website and blog and seeing his book displayed at our venue at Crathorne Hall.

After our meeting when he travelled to our home we had no need to meet with any other photographers, he was so friendly and easy to talk to that we booked Dirk a few days later.

We had a lot of fun on our pre-wed shoot and Dirk put us both at ease especially Dan as he does not like his photo taken at all! 

The photographs from this shoot turned out great and it's brilliant to have some lovely photographs of us together in our home town of Hartlepool.

When it came to the wedding day Dirk arrived early on and took many photographs while chatting with my Mum and the girls and they all took an instant like to him.

He captured all the photographs I love so efficiently, not getting in the way at all while we were making our final preparations then heading off to get photographs of 'The Boys' arriving in a limousine.  

Throughout the whole day he chatted and joked with all the guests and got photographs of them all without them even noticing. 

He took all the group shots we asked for in such a fun and quick way that it didn’t even seem that we were getting photographs taken! All of the guests commented on how nice Dirk was on the day and after they viewed all his photographs how fab his work is!

We couldn’t be happier with our wedding photographs. They capture our day perfectly and will preserve our memories forever.

The photographs are so artistic and of such a high quality, he paid attention to every detail on the day not missing anything.

We were able to see a Sneak Peek of our photographs before we even headed to New York for our honeymoon and the very day we got back he had sent us a link to view the full set of images.

I can't wait for our storybook wedding album!

The service Dirk provided is second to none and we would highly recommend him to anyone!..."

I first met with Kerry at a Wedding Fair earlier this year, and despite the time-gap, I must have made a small impression as Kerry and fiancee Paul contacted me to come and see them at Tynemouth recently.
 So, on a Sunday afternoon down on the beach at Crusoe's Coffee shop, we had a chat over a HUGE cup of coffee, talked about their upcoming wedding and I showed a few of the beautuful A3 San Francisco wedding books.
 They're going to have a really chilled, family orientated wedding day, a lovely day that they both feel comfortable with in a lovely church with a wedding breakfast in an intimate restaurant and, later on, back down to the legendary Crusoe's for an evening on the beach......

BLANCHLAND WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY REVIEW

It's always nice when clients offer me a testimonial ... so, Linda sent me this one after I covered her and Phillip's wedding in Consett and at Blanchland, a medieval village in the Derwent Valley / Northumberland border.

"...... We are delighted that we choose Dirk as our wedding photographer at Consett and The Lord Crewe Arms at Blanchland in the Derwent Valley, County Durham.He was a joy to work with!
I am a photographer too - specialising in Asian wedding photography across the North East of England ........ and therefore knew exactly what I wanted and didn't want.
We talked to a number of "recommended" photographers but Dirk stood out a mile for this style of photography and his personality.
Personality is important when your wedding photographer is going to spend a full day with you and your guests.On our wedding day, Dirk came to my house in the morning whilst we were getting make-up done and getting dressed.
He just fitted in, he made us all feel totally at ease.
He sensed when some were getting tense and left them in peace. Then off to the church; he did not use flash so the photographs were warm and natural.In typical Dirk style he asked us to go for a walk and a chat in the garden at our wedding reception venue, The Lord Crewe Arms at Blanchland and as a result produce some wonderful photographs.
Even the more formal shots for family members were unobtrusive and quick.
His photographs captured the story of our big day to perfection.Dirk is a Master - I would not hesitate to recommend him.
He is worth every penny!!

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY EDITING AND IMAGE ENHANCEMENT

There's a tremendous amount of work to do once a wedding has been photographed.

I complete a 1st edit as soon as I return back to base, and that's whether I get back at midnight or 2 o' clock in the morning.

I much prefer to do this 1st edit of images from two cameras while the day is fresh in my mind.

First edit is to take out all the images that didn't quite work, all the images where the bride and groom and their guests have their eyes shut or where they are pulling a funny face (unintentionally of course.....)

At this stage I 'see' some photographs in black and white and I make a monochrome version of the image to remind me later, and it's amazing how many brides and grooms love my selections and order them later as framed portraits or canvases, I still don't know how I decide that a particular image will work so well as a monochrome photograph, I guess it's just years of experience!

Some weddings we decide beforehand to complete ALL in black and white, and luckily with digital nowadays that's an easy option, although getting the rich deep blacks and clean whites that look so good takes a little time with every image in post production... and that all adds up.

First edit will take me between 2-3 hours, and at that stage I also colour correct and enhance the images when and where they are needed, to give them a little bit of WOW factor and try give my bride and groom an impression of how a captured image can look in different styles or ways of presentation... so some images have three of four variations, perhaps in black and white, perhaps with a stronger more graphical colour correction, or maybe a version with just a slight amount of image enhancement.

'Your Wedding - The Exhibition' at Gateshead International Stadium

I'm pleased to let you know that I'm participating in the 'Your Wedding' - The Exhibition' being held across two days this weekend at Gateshead International Stadium.

It's all a little bit last minute, but a window of opportunity to take part in this innaugural North East Wedding Fair / Show was too good to pass over.

So, if you are free on 15th / 16th March and you are still looking for a photographer, or a dress or a location or your favours - this is the place to check all these things out.

If we have met before, it will be great to chat again, and even if you have chosen another photographer for your big day, as ever, I will still be happy to advise on any aspect of your wedding day, after all, I've been part of more weddings than most people!
